Access 97 compatible with Excell 2003?

John Richards

I recently bought the student version of Office 2003 which does not include
Access. I also have a copy of Office 97 Professional and was able to
install Access 97 into my Office folder along with the existing Excel 2003.
I am probably an intermediate user of Excel but a true novice in Access. Am
I asking for trouble trying to teach myself Access 97 and using it with
Excel 2003 or should I spring for Access 2003 to avoid compatibility
problems? I'm especially concerned with the possibility that making the two
versions work together might not follow the normal procedures documented in
reference books or online help.

Thanks
John

it is quite remarkable how well access 97 can work with the new office 2003.
Until about 6 months ago, I had a good number of clients using access97
applications with office xp. they now since upgraded everything to office
2003.....but it did work quite well.

You should as rule install access97 to a non default directory (ie: one
that is different then the default dir..as you don't want to "mix" any of
the versions into the same directories. So, what you propose is
workable..but of course I do like the a2003 version more then a97 now...
