A3 colour printers

Can anyone recommend an A3 colour printer?

At the moment I just have an Epson R200 A4 printer. So far I've not
had too many problems with this, though I have heard of others having
problems with Epson.

Am I better going for a HP printer and the more expensive inks or
would you still recommend taking chances with an A3 Epson and the
better res it can offer?

I occasionally need to print out something that may be A3 in size e.g.
a banner or poster or for example there might be the odd newspaper
page I want to print out from the newspapers I download from
PressDisplay.com.

Do Canon offer anything good in the A3 category and also are there any
other makes to consider as well?

I don't think I would use it enough to justify a laser printer and I
am guessing they would cost too much anyway.

The HP B9180 is a very good printer, heads self check and self clean
so you don't need to do this manually. Epson has a new A3 printer out,
the R1900, supposedly a big improvement over the R1800. Depending on
what you need there are the Epson R2400, the old man of this group,
and the Canon Pro9500, both are a couple of hundred more than the HP
or the R1900. The R2400 is known for its versitility using Epson's pro
K3 inkset, the Canon is relatively new and getting good reviews. Bang
for the buck I'd go with the HP, I use 2 in my office.
If money is a problem, look at the dye ink printers, the Epson 1400,
Canon Pixma S9000, HP also has a good dye based printer though I can
never remember its model numbers. Dye printer may actually be better
if you like glossy photographic prints. Dye printers do limit your
paper choices to get good print longevity.

The Canon dye Pro9000 is the best.  Also look at the Canon Pro9500 pigment printer.  I am not sure it is as good a value but prints should be more archival but may lack some vibrancy of dye.  To go larger the Epson 3800 should also be considered.  I would not consider an HP.

The Epson 1400 is better than the Canon.
I know...I've had both.
