Every time I log into my Winodws XP Pro Laptop with any account
including the administrative account, I get the following error:
"A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license
for this computer. Error Code: 0x80090006"
Even if I try to access my system via Safe Mode I get the same error -
so my hands are totally tied.
Background:
This is a recently purchased laptop which came with default factory
settings where drive H: was the primary local drive, instead of C:
Yes, odd.
Everything has been working fine... Until I installed a Plextor DVD
RW drive. At this point, it seems as though my system decided that it
would look at C: as the windows / local disc directory, instead of H:
I'm basing that from the fact that the last thing I tried was running
the repair from my XP Pro disc. During that process I was prompted to
choose my windows installation, and the only option available was -
C:\windows (instead of H:\windows which is what it should have been).
It seems to me, if I could change it back to H:, I'd be up and running
again.
Problem is, I can not get into regedit as I can't get into windows
even via safe mode or safe mode with command prompt. Each time I try
to log in through safe mode I get the same error... A problem is
preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this
computer.
The only place I can get past the log in screen is into the recovery
console from the xp disc, which leaves me with nothing but a command
prompt...
I really don't want to reformat...
Any thoughts welcome,
Thanks
