Problem preventing Windows checking license?

J

Josh Vazquez

When I start up my computer, and try to login (Win XP Pro)
it shows me an error message titled Windows Product
Activation, which says the following:

A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking
the license for this computer. Error Code: 0x80070002.

This is the same problem on Microsoft KB Article Q310794.
I have tried everything listed on there, but nothing seems
to work. I can only start my computer in Safe Mode,
including Safe Mode with Networking.

Can someone please help me fix this? This only started 2
days ago, with my computer working as normal before that.
I did not install anything on the day before the problem
started occuring.

And yes, I am currently writing this on my computer, but
in Safe Mode.

Thank you,
Josh

Hi Josh,

Start/run regsvr32 regwizc.dll
Then start/run regsvr32 licdll.dll

If this doesn't help try these steps:

Start the computer in Safe mode by hitting F8 at bootup. Start/run regedit.
Delete the following keys:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\Providers

Exit the registry editor, restart normally.
