The link below, is to an image of the upper left corner of my Control panel.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/learnmore/classicview/ctrlpanel.mspx

The link above, are the directions I read, in an attempt to discover how to
switch to classic view, and then how to switch back to catagory view.

===============================================
To see all Control Panel icons in Classic View

• "In the upper left of the Control Panel window, click Switch to Classic View". To change back, click Switch to Category View.

================================================

As the directions state above,

I fail to see, exactly what this is informing a user to actually "click".

I can find nothing in the upper left corner of my control panel ,that states
"Switch to Classic View"

Additionlly, I then clicked file, edit, view, the folders button, as well as the other buttons, and found nothing that states, " Switch to Classic View".

My original intent was to address something, completely unrelated to this,
however nonetheless found myself, ensnared in such an incredibly inane procedure, that it defies reason, why someone would ever consider posting
to its regard in a forum.

I posted this, because from time to time, theres been other instances, similiar in nature, of pointless complexity or inconsequential inaccuracy, that have created needless bouts of adversity.
Occurring at inoportune times, they have redirected me, to find alternates means to often the same end, and thus have lived on to annoy another day.
Well, starting with this one today, I HAVE the time, and whether i end up playing the victor, or the fool, I'm playing it, all the way to its mind boggling end!

Sorry about that Ramesh,
May have been Verizon acting up.
Sometimes gets particular, but should work now..

Top right, next to Control Panel. Make the arrows point up!

Have you tried going to Start, Settings, Taskbar and Start Menu and changing
the setting from there?

Thanks for the reply Danny.
Sorry, but I assumed this thread had drifted off the map.
these "tree" style threads are fine, its just that being my first post here,
I overlooked the " notify of replies" check box, (having assumed it was on by default).
and made it a bit tricky finding the post again !

Anyway, your suggestion is certainly a simple, direct, and concise method, thats easily understandable, and leaves little to confuse. Had I known, I probably would have simply closed out of the control panel, and proceeded as such.

But my post was focused on the generalized Microsoft directions, that suggest a super simple folder preferance setting :

"In the upper left of the Control Panel window, click Switch to Classic View"

Sounds simple enough, how difficult could it be to change a folder view?

I mean hell, I'd be embarrassed to waste a post about somthing so easy?.

Trouble is, that for whatever reason, I STILL, dont see exactly what to click, given those directions to follow.

So, either I'm a blind moron, with absoloutely zero cognitive sense, or those directions have screwed up the easiest of tasks, and would
represent both inconvenience, and at this point, my salvation!

Well, the thread may have drifted off the map. There are so many posts to
this group on a daily basis that sometimes things get overlooked by those
who are regularly here posting advice.

I dug a little farther on your issue, and I believe the reason you are not
seeing what you are expecting is because of a setting either you or someone
else chose on your PC. If you go to Control Panel, and open Folder Options,
under the Geenral Tab the first section is labelled "Tasks". You probably
have selected "Use Windows classic folders". If you check "Show common
tasks in folders" I beleive you will see what you were expecting.

Sorry about the misdirection on Taskbar and Start Menu.

Good luck.

YES!!
Outstanding follow up!

Thanks Danny, for seeing this thru.
I would highly doubt, you found that listed anywhere, and assume you clicked around and explored until you came upon it.
If so, your diligence not only deserves serious consideration for the prestigious, XP Forum's Relentless Sleuth of the Year Award, but also has served as a lesson, that clearly defines what has been my ongoing impetus, with Microsoft's shoddy directions.

That these small, yet rather essential pieces of missing truth, are merely sign posts,
pointing in a direction, that leads to further understanding.

Cheers!
