Hi all,

For some reason in the Control Panel the option to switch to Classic
View is gone.
Only the 'See also' options are there.

Does anybody know how to get the 'Switch to Classic View' back?

Greetings,
Mark

PS I'm using Windows XP Pro

And it isn't something simple, like the left-pane "Control Panel" menu
is collapsed and you have to hith the up/down chevron to expand it to
see the entries under it?

Mark,

Try right clicking the taskbar and selecting
Properties/Start menu. You'll find "Classic View" there.
Also you can click the desktop and select "Properties" and
change "View" to Classic there.

Hope this helps,
Milt

Found it!

To solve the problem i've removed the registry key
"ForceClassicControlPanel" in
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explor
er]

It looks much better now :)

Thanks for the replies all,
Mark

Since it is under a Polices subkey, I have to wonder if the problem
won't come back. If you are logging on locally and as an administrator
then you can set the policy. However, if you log onto a domain, you'll
get whatever policies are established by that domain so you may find
that the problem reappears. Seems peculiar that a domain administrator
would care what view you use rather than just getting to it at all.

This computer is not on a domain, so thats not a problem :)
This setting is probably set by a tweak program i was playing with, but that
one is removed now and is not comming back ;)

The problem with many tweakers is that if they are not explicit in
telling you what they they will do (and remember so you can undo the
changes) then you are in the dark and you don't know how to fix what
they "fixed". You have to be careful even when following Microsoft's
own advice. I read a KB article that described upping the security for
encryption by making a change which then killed HTTPS so I could no
longer visit any SSL-secured web sites, like my bank (see
http://snipurl.com/MS_FIPS_killHTTPS for a Google Groups copy of my
post). Sometimes tweaking takes you in the wrong direction.
