A couple of questions about repair installs

Gary

HI,
This is kind of a follow up question to something I posted
earlier. (now on page 16 :)

My friend has a computer that is home made and the HDD
came from her old machine, an HP.

One of my options was to do a repair install and I was
going to try this. She sais she cant find any of her
original disks.

1) can I do a repair install using my copy of XP on her
box? My XP is OEM, if it matters.

2) It was also suggested that even if we had her copy,
that it would be an OEM copy that was tied to her former
machine. Does this mean even if we do find it it won't
work?

Basicaly, I want to avoid telling her she has to buy a new
copy of XP which she already bought. Or a new HDD.

Thanks alot,
Gary B.

Hi

1. No - your OEM disk is tied to your PC.

2. Yes - it won't work . That OEM disk will tied to the former machine.

If the original CD can't be found, then a new one will have to be purchased.
