A clean instalation of Windows XP. Can not install any thing else,

Hello every one. I am a newbie to this forum and I hope someone out there
can help me. I installed a clean installation of Windows XP pro and when I
try to install Norton Anti virus I get a pop up massage [ This installation
package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that
this is a valid windows Installation package.]......This comes up when I try
to install anything.....

Microsoft Windows XP Professional... Version 2002 Service Pack 2

Computer.. Intel ( R ) , Pentium ( R ) , 4 CPU 2.40GHz , 2.41 GHz , 512 MB

This can happen if the locally cached Windows Installer package (.msi) file
is damaged or corrupted.
Download the windows Installer from here:

Reboot your machine and try the installation. Does it help?
If you still have issue try this fix below.

Download this reg file on your desktop then right click and select Merge to
merge to your regsitry.
