>98 to XP AUDIO DRIVER<

W

Wayne B.

I have a Compaq Presario that came store bought years ago
loaded with 98. I have just wiped it clean and installed
XP Pro. The only driver that didn't load after install
is the 'Multimedia Audio Controller' - I went to
Compaq's site and found an audio driver for the Presario.
But all of sudden it hit me, would this work for a system
that was put together years ago running 98 that's now
running XP. OR, is that driver specifically for more
recent Presarios machines that came preloaded with XP.
Would the hardware match up or no?? The reason I ask is
because the driver is almost 20megs big and I didn't want
to waste all my time DL'ing a driver that wouldn't do me
any good. (I have dialup)

If anyone knows off-hand one way or the other, please let
me know. I'd appreciate it.

THANX N ADVANCE. The Rookie/Wayne B.

See if they have a Windows2000 driver. Windows9x drivers will NOT work on
XP. Windows 2000 drivers will usually work. Alternatively find out what
onboard soundchip you have on the motherboard and look for the soundchip
manufacturer's website.
