98 SE connects to IPC$ on XP pro

xp can easily access the files on 98. but when 98 tries
to access the shared file on XP it asks for a password to
the IPC$ resource. i looked into this and i tried logging
into 98 using a username and password from xp and this
didn't work. 1/2 the time it says no permission, the
other 1/2 the time it still asks for a password. what am
i doing wrong?

Setup Client for Microsoft Windows Networking over in your 98 box
and create the same user name and password in both machine.
