9500 pro and gaming (C&C)

Hello all,

Pretty healthy machine with these specs and nothing overclocked. It is
tweaked for a gaming machine with the most minimal resources running
:
768 megs pc2100
AMD 2000+
Abit KD7A
WinXP Pro
9500pro 128 meg using Catalyst 3.8.5a Beta drivers
80 gig 7200 (w/40 free) HD

I play a lot of Command and Conquer Generals. I have all the latest drivers
for anything on my pc (Via,XP,motherboard, games). I also have been playing
with AA and AF on max settings. That game ran great and looked good.

Now I added the expansion game Zero Hour. It looks even better, but the
game was a little slow. It was slow enough that I did a reinstall just to
make sure it wasnt the game. It did hang up after one of the cut scenes.
At least that did not happen. But it was still a little choppy. Definately
playable, but why is is jittering up like I have a slow vid card, or HD
sloshing or something?

Im fishing for ideas right now. It seems as though it could just as easily
be a driver issue or game bug. I currently have the game set to 800x600
with graphics set at medium. I have also turned of AA + AF. There is
improvement, but its not as nice looking or still stutter free.

Sorry for posting here, but the C&C newsgroups are not on my server that are
specific for this game. I figure a buch of you might play this series of
games with ATI cards.

Thanks group,
SL

Hello again,
I uninstalled Zero Hour and the 3.8.5beta driver. I then reinstalled Zero
Hour and the 3.9 driver. I turned the settings back to 1024x768 resolution
within the game. All is well again. Nice framerate in the game with lots
of eye candy.

Funny thing. I know omega drivers are not the best with 3dmark 03 for high
scores. However, with the previous driver, I got appx 4500. Now i get about
1000 less at 3500. Hmmm...

I dont care about that as much as the results I get with the games I use.
They do the job there nicely.
