For some strange reason, I have been unable to install
Patch #818529: June 2003, Cumulative Patch for Internet
Explorer 6 Service Pack 1. Everytime I attempt to install
the patch, it fails to install. The operating system is
W2K, SP4. Any help would be appreciated....

1. Do you already have it? IE Help>About>Update Versions>Q818529

2. Assuming you're trying to install from the download page, have you tried
using Windows Update?

3. Your anti-virus application should always be disabled before going to
Windows Update and when downloading/installing from any MS page. All other
Windows-based processes should also be closed.

Speaking of which, when I try to use it, I get a message saying I have a
customized version of IE and can't use it. I seem to remember that there is
a registry key you can change to overcome that. Would you happen to know
what it is?

Post the complete message, Gord.

Windows version?

IE Help>About> What version is showing here (e.g., 6.0.2800.1106CO;
include any letters at the end)?

Thanks for your reply. After I first posted, I got off my posterior and did
a search in the newsgroup and discovered the answer. It seems the answer is
to delete the key "NoWindowsUpdate" in the registry. The reference is at:

<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com
:80/support/kb/articles/Q228/5/48.ASP&NoWebContent=1>

That's what I did and now update works.
