802.11g wireless

Hi,

How does 802.11g wireless compare with a wired connection for a home
network? Is it about the same speed? I am contemplating getting an
802.11g to plug into my cable gateway/router so that I can connect a
computer with a built in wire capability (it is a feature of the
motherboard - an Asus A8V).

thanks,
Shane

I've never run speed tests on it, but 802.11g seems to be at least as fast
as wired 10/100 networking. I can transfer files over a "g" wireless
network as fast as a wired network. I notice no difference at all using a
fast cable modem over a wireless network. -Dave

A modern wired network is either 100 or 1000. Wireless standard g is 54.
There's a new super g that fiddles around and establishes two
connections to double the bandwidth to 108 under IDEAL circumstances.
That's a theoretical ideal, mind you, so unless you're using super g,
you're only getting half what a standard 100 wired network gives you.
Nowhere near a gigabit wired network, though.

cable LAN is 100 Mbs
..11g is 56 Mbs
as far as internet ADSL/cable speed goes is 3 Mbs, so both connections will
be same speed
