But the 64-bit systems will no longer run 16-bit programs.

regards,

Most software will run without too much pain, but not all. Virtual PC,
for instance, does not run on the 64bit version of the OS.

You will have similar issues running 32-bit software on 64-bit OS's as you
currently have 16-bit software on 32-bit OS's - the only issue that may not
arise due to XP being around for a while, is 32-bit software trying to
directly control hardware, like many old 16-bit software did. The only
exceptions may be 32-bit software that was written specifically for Win98SE
or WinME.

Hi,

Any advantages for moving to 64-bit OS?

Well, assuming for modern knowledge workers who use Office applications to
certain degree, do some HTML documents, web design, image or multimedia
editing, play some games.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Derek

I downloaded the ISO file without a problem, burned the ISO file as an Image
and
begann the setup and organized all drivers needed to make my new xp64 a
possitive test, or so I thought. The setup went alright although not in the
35 minutes I read on this forum, I guess 120 is a more acurately setup time.
It kind of hung itself up at min. 33 for an hour.
Once up and running my wireless plus my sound didn't work any more, all
update intends with the Seller of my Laptop, Fujutsu Siemens failled. My
Conexant Prism wireless Lan was not to be seen any more. This apart I had
small thin lines in my display, not allways though but every minute or so.My
biggst Problem was that the Plug and Play was not able to update. That was
what it said. Install failed, Plug and Play was unable to update. There I was
with a bunch of 64 bit drivers, not being able to install them. After 48
hours I gave up and went back to the original Windows Home Edition SP2

By the way my system specs. are:
Amilo 7640
Mobile AMD Athlon 3400+
768 DDR3 RAM
80 GB Hard drive,
newest updated BIOS

Thanks Arnego2
So! I think I will wait until I purchase my next computer with 64 bit OS
already installed, running and with all the correct drivers etc.
