4GB CF problem

Hi,

We have purchased a 4GB CF and have run into problems using it.

I have followed the procedure to partition/format and boot prep this disk.
This only provides a maximum of 2GB useable space. I can accept this, but
the disappointing thing is that if I load an XPe image into the 2GB of
space, then, following the FBA run and subsequent boot, the following
problem is reported,
"A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for
this computer - error code 0x80070002"

Is this the 2nd 2GB of space has not been formatted/allocated? or is there
some other explanation?

Regards,

Bernie

Hi Bernie,

Have you set appropriate OS partition size in TD?

Hi,

I don't think I have, but I suspect this is not the problem because I often
switch
between 256MB and 512MB CFs but leave the OS Partition size at 256MB.
Nonetheless, I will still give your suggestion a try,

Thanks,

Bernie

As Slobodan mentioned, setting the Target Device Settings boot partition size
is important. Between 256MB and 512 MB, you will not see a problem, but
definitely between 256MB and 2GB, you will see the license error problem.

You can also try setting the CF to fixed media and re-format as NTFS to
utilize the 4 GB flash. FAT32 should also work, but FAT 16 will definitely
give you the 2 GB limit.

Bernie,

There is a known issue relative to the Partition size setting in TD and the
Physical size of the partition. If you set it for 256MB in TD an it's 2GB
physical, it will throw error. Also you cannot set it exact. Set it approx
1GB above the physical size (if it's 2GB set it to 3 in TD) it's a weird
Bug, but I have not run into issues when doing this.

Also, check with the CF MFR to see if they have a utility to set the Flash
as a "FIXED" disk, as CF is flagged as removable by default. This could be
an issue.

I initially Format as FAT16 then use Convert.exe to convert to NTFS

I'll try this,

I am currently trying to get hold of the SanDisk utilities to ensure
CF appears as a Fixed Disk.

Thanks

That seems to have fixed it.

Thanks very much for your info.

Bernie
