2nd request: No Sound!

Guest

I have a laptop with XP Home SP2. My sound is gone. I can't find a service
for sound. There's a sound applet in the control panel, but I still can't
get any sound.

The only sound I hear is a little system beep occasionally.

How do I get my sounds back? Do I re-register a dll, or what?

Thanks for your help!

Remove your sound card in Device Manager and reboot. It will reinstall
hopefully correctly.

Reinstall the driver. If it still doesn't work, there might be a conflict
between the driver and SP2, so try to install the latest driver from the
vendor's website.

Please let me know if it works.

Visit Sony site and download required drivers for winxp home on your
specific laptop - if they have winxp drivers

But it's a laptop -- I'm afraid to open it up; besides, I don't know what a
sound card looks like.

OK. Sounds good. But how do I know what the driver is? Or how to
reinstall it? Where should I look to ID the driver. And then where on the
computer would I find it to reinstall it?

It's a Sony Vaio, and I've only got system restore (to factory settings)
disks. There isn't any selective install of this or that kind of a driver.

OIC. OK. I uninstalled the drivers and rebooted. The drivers didn't come
back. Now what should I do?

As allready posted;
Visit Sony site> downloads> your specific system/model> drivers for winxp
(if they exist)
I would use earlier downloads, where available, as some Sony updated drivers
can, in my experience, give problems
