2GB SD card will not work in XP

I have a new 2GB SD card which I put into my Mitsumi FDD card reader. When I
put it in the drive, the red light comes on and does not go off, even once I
remove the card. I've read that the regular XP driver does not support SD
cards this large but I cannot find a newer driver.

I can connect the camera via the cable and works fine, but I cannot put the
card in.

Is there a way to get this to work or is there no support for these cards in
Windows XP?

Thanks
Terry

Strange. I have some 2GB SDs and I have no trouble reading them in XP.
I'm using a three year old multi-format card reader that I bought
because it was the cheapest one I could find at Fry's; it's the
well-known "MADE IN CHINA" brand--no other ID on it. I assume that you
have some images on the card, or else you wouldn't even have tried to
read it. If it is empty, though, have you tried formatting it _in your
camera_?
If you don't find help here, I suggest that you try
rec.photo.digital--quite a few card questions pop up there. Warning:
that ng has the worst signal-to-noise ratio of any ng that I follow, but
it is still quite worthwhile if you are into digital photography. Good
luck!

XP does support these large capacity cards. I would bet that if you could
try a different card reader, you would be able to read it. I have a 2GB SD
card that works just fine with one card reader but if I use my other card
reader, the light goes on and blinks for a very long time and then I get the
message that the card isn't formatted and it asks me if I want to format it
now.

There are images on it and there are videos on it. If I connect the camera
using the USB connection, that driver is able to read to the files.

Again, the link just stays a steady "red" when this card is in. With any
other card, the light blinks on and then goes off and I can access the drive.

Perhaps the Mitsumi reader just won't handle it and it is not a Windows
problem but when I checked online, elsewhere, there were lots of reports of
this situation but no resolution.

Hi Terry,

You need to go to the manufacturers web site and download
the newest driver. On my HP dv8000, it would not read SD
cards over 1GB with the built in reader. I downloaded the
latest driver and now it reads my 4GB cards no problem.

I have used 2 gig SD cards with several XP systems, so I don't see any
indication of a lack of support on XP's part.. I use an external Sandisk
reader.

You may want to put the card back in the Camera and get the contents of the
card off via cable, as soon as you possibly can. Then consider retiring
that card.
