SD Card Reader only reads one Card

Im having trouble with my SD Card reader, it worked perfectly fine and then i
decided to safetly remove the device instead of pulling it out as I usually
did, now its just allowing me to read one SD card and even that took a couple
of attempts to get working re-installing a mix and match of drivers till it
finally read. I have 4 sd card mainly 2gb and it will only ever read the one
from the wii. Due to the problem I figured that it might be a problem with
all but one of the SD cards so I tried putting them into a ubuntu based
machine my friend has and low and behold they worked fine.
Thinking that it was a problem with Vista i installed XP and am having the
exact same issue where only the one card reads, it reads all other cards fine
just not SD cards anybody have a solution, i would post this in an XP forum
but I cant find one.

Sounds like a hardware issue with
the SD slot of your media reader.

BTW...this 'is' an XP forum.

Perform a BIOS reset. (best way is with the internal battery jumper, but
there may be an option on the BIOS config pages.)

Note: this is NOT flashing the BIOS. Don't attempt that unless absolutely
necessary.

just to make sure that means i have to pop the bios battery out for about 10
seconds and take out the power cord for it to reset right

Nope just standard SD as I said it will read one but not the four others I
have although they work fine on other pc's

As Anteus said, to reset the BIOS to its defaults, you may be able to
use a jumper or a choice within the BIOS setup program. Failing that,
all you need to do is remove the battery and keep it out for a while.
How long "a while" is varies, but ten second is usually not enough. I
recommend keeping it out for at least 15 minutes.

The reason, BTW, is that the BIOS extended data area contains info about USB
interfaces, and this can become corrupted. There is often no reference to
this data in the BIOS setup screens, but it exists.

I have not had chance to remove the bios Battery and find out what the
results of that are as i am currently at work but as soon as im next to the
pc I will give it a go, the cards are not sdhc they are standard 2gb sd cards
one of them being a micro sd in and adapter all made by sandisk and only the
one that I use with the wii will work

it doesnt even recognise that i've plugged any others in the icon flickers
and thats it, no sound or other acknowledgement. other than a flash and a
green light on the reader itself its an internal usb reader
