Xp not recognizing my sd card

I bought a 4GB micro san disk card for use with my wireless phone. When I put
it in the sd card slot on the computer - it just freezes. I can't pull up the
G: drive its located under. My old 2GB card worked fine. I tried it on my
wife's laptop that has vista and it showed up. I'm assuming XP can't
recognize the 4GB card - is there a software update that will fix this issue?

Try updating the drivers for the SD Card reader in your computer.
Failing that, you could try a different card reader;
And failing that... is this one of the newer Sandisk cards that has the
fold-back USB interface?
If yes, you can plug the back end right into a free USB port and use the
card like any other regular USB flash drive.

Are you using the MicroSD to SD adapter?

The problem is not that XP can not read the 4GB card but the SD reader
"might" not be able to read it. I have seen SD readers where the
manaul states "clearly" up to which capacity the reader can handle.
