2007 popup floating menu toolbar on text select

When one selects text in the document, one gets a delightful little pop-up
menu toolbar with the font, bold, color change feature, etc. right where the
mouse clicks.

What is this darn thing and how do I nuke it to heck??? Can't figure out the
proper search terms to even find information on it, let alone turn it off.

Help is, as always, appreciated.

It's called the Mini Toolbar and it can be nuked by clicking the Microsoft
Office Button, clicking Word Options and then in the Popular section, turn
off "Show Mini Toolbar on selection". Great concept but it definitely gets
in your way!
