2003 install can't find folders and closes

I installed Office 2003 into a win XP computer. When I
try to open Outlook, I get this error message: "Unable
to open your default email folders. Create a new profile
by BLAH BLAH BLAH" I did this to no avail. As soon as
I click on either the close button or the OK in the error
message, Outlook closes also, preventing me from somehow
loading my personal folders from my previous versions of
Outlook. I tried to load the Office 2003 SP's but after
downloading them, it said I already had them. I have run
out of ideas. Anybody have any suggestions? TIA

Check your mail profile in Control Panel under Control
Panel, Mail (or User Info) if using the newer style of
Control Panel in XP.
Under Mail, you should be able to add or modify your user
account and add in your old pst. If that doesn't work,
you may need to open Outlook 2003 and then use File
Import to import the old pst data.

NEVER import a .pst file. Always use File->Open to ensure the integrity of
the file is maintained.

When you created a new mail profile under control panel->mail icon->show
profiles, you did create a new one and did not copy the old one, right?
