2003 AD migration from NT4

A

Andy

Hi, we currently have a single NT4 domain with 500 PC's
(maninly Win2k Pro) and about 25 servers (WinNT 4, Win2k,
Win2k3), Exchange is on WinNT 4 is 5.5.

Basically is it best to use the Microsoft AD Migration
Tool (version 2.0)?

Kind Regards

Andy

Probably the "easiest" way to upgrade is just to upgrade your pdc to 2k,
check it out to be sure it looks ok, then start upgrading your bdc's, and
then NT servers etc. ADMT v2 is certainly another option that a lot of
people use but takes a bit more work and reading to plan your migration
(what you want to migrate first, all at once or over several days/weeks,
etc). ADMT is used for folks that created a single label dns domain name
originally and want to change it to a more qualified name (something with a
..com, .net, .local, etc on it) that win2k3 sp4 and win2k3 will require.
They create a new domain and then migrate from the single label one to their
new one.
