2000 to XP Upgrade Problems - Loader Not Compatible

Guest

I just attempted to upgrade from 2000 to XP and upon installation received a
message about "loader not compatible" but the installation and setup kicked
off anyway. Since the upgrade install, I have lost desktop icons and access
to:

Internet Explorer
All applications (such as Photoshop, SQL Server, Frontpage) that are not in
the Microsoft Office Suite
Outlook Express

These applications still show in explorer and in program files, but icons
are grayed out indicating they cannot be read.

Help!! Anyone know a quick fix or file I lost in the upgrade. I am getting
connection thru my cable modem.

Did you select the default "Upgrade" setup option and did you
use a "retail upgrade version" of Windows XP Professional?

Hi

Are you trying to upgrade from W2K to XP Home Edition? If so, you can't do
that - only to XP Pro.

Carey:

I will try that when I get home. Am trying to get answers from work since I
cannot get online at home w/o IE. Would explain why all of my apps appear
under Programs but are not accessible?

Thanks.
