i have an old computer with 2000 pro which i have not used for at least 10
years. i tried to open windows but was informed that a repair was needed. i
booted with the cd, put in my pasword, but have completely forgotten my
administrators name and password. is there a workaround so i can get in to
windows to do the repair. i need to wipe the harddrive before i donate it.

If you need to wipe the hard drive then why fiddle about with Windows
usernames and passwords? Just wipe the disk and then, if you wish,
reinstall Windows 2000... or just donate the computer with the disk
wiped clean and the accompanying Windows 2000 CD and the recipient can
install the operating system to his likings.

You can use this to wipe the disk, just boot the computer with DBAN and
have it do its job:

Well you cannot wipe the drive from within windows.
Boot from a win disk and delete all partitions, or if you want to be
thorough take the hard drive out and physically destroy it

Create a floppy to boot and run their program to wipe the hard drive(s).

Then donate the computer. Your choice if you want to include the old OS
installation media.

i want to go thru what is on the computer to see if there is anything on it
that i want/need to keep. photos, for example. they don't always transfer
to a new computer.
i posted this on xp because there were no other options that i thought were
more relevent.
