Hello,

My desktop is currently running on Windows XP. I want to install Windows 2000 Professional on it but sincd I want my machine to be DUAL BOOT on XP and 2000 both I bought new HARD DISK and want to install WINDOWS 2000 on it so that when i power up my PC it shows me the menu where I can choose WIN XP or 2000 to boot the machine.

I wanted to know if it is possible? Please note I dont want to format my XP Hard Disk just want load 2000 on the top of it.

Please advice (if possible send me an email at (e-mail address removed)).

You should not have to reformat your Windows XP partition to do this, but
you will have to repair the Windows XP boot files.. Just be sure to install
Windows 2000 on the new hard disk and not the same partition as Windows XP.
After installing Windows 2000, you will probably find that Windows XP will
not boot properly, due to certain system files being mismatched. You would
then need to boot from your Windows XP CD and choose Recovery Console. You
can then use "FIXBOOT C:" to repair the XP boot files. After that, both
operating systems should work fine.

As a general rule, you always want to install the older operating systems
first, followed by the newer ones. If you do that, you should not have to
worry about repairing the install afterwards.
