How to remove XP from a dual boot system?

I was given a XP pro install CD so I decided to install it on a computer
already running Win 2000 Pro sp4. I had hoped for a dual booting system,
mostly for playing with.

It did install as a dual boot however the install key for the XP seems
to be already used, (I shouldn't have been surprised).

At this time I'd simply like to un-install the XP and get back to having
the Win 2000 being the only operating system on the pc.

How do I do this without starting over with a formatted disk and a fresh
install of 2000?

By the way, the Win 2000 bootup works perfectly, that is why I don't
want to start over.

Did you install XP on it's own partition?

WinXP is probably installed in X:\Windows (where X: could be any drive
letter). Rename it to X:\WindowsXP, then wait a week. If all is well, delete
X:\WindowsXP and use msconfig.exe to remove the WinXP entry from boot.ini.

No, both 2000 (original system) and XP are in the same (the first listed
in disk mgr) partition of my C: drive, the only drive in the computer.
There is a second partition, but that is only a place where I was
playing with Ubuntu. That partition is no longer needed,

Thanks for the suggestions. Using them, and what I found on the
internet, allowed me to remove XP and have my pc back to what I wanted.

You know sardine, you can reuse that key again. You know that right?
Usually that key will be available again after 120 days. And before or
in the worst case, you have to call Microsoft and tell them you
uninstalled it and you need to install it in another machine.
