2 surprises of vista

Your question seems to start with an incorrect assumption.
As has already been stated, it does not necessarily need 2 GB RAM.
The RAM needed depends on the specific uses of the computer.

you understand of course that it is impossible for me to read more than 2
lines from your posts.. dont you?

Yes...that is a sure sign of any number of mental disorders and a
deepening of a psychosis.
Although I would normally read your trash even though its stupid.. I just
cannot! The reason?

We know...you can't concentrate long enough. You are suffering from
diatribitious...a form of excessive verbiage. When you try to read all
you want to do is speak...thus you can't read more than a few words at
any one time. Then you speak and at the same time you forget what you've
just read and then you forget what you are speaking about. It makes you
a blabbering fool...as evidenced by most all of your postings.
My advice...and it certainly isn't medical...is to put both of your feet
in your mouth at the same time.
Trust me it works as I've witnessed fools like you successfully do it in
the past.
You are the most BORING person alive today on EARTH!

Hummm...the meds are wearing off right?
Both feet...in the mouth...at the same time...try it.

Excellent post, Mike.

But you know that Vista runs better with 2gb installed, and that the
majority of current laptops are underpowered when compared to a similar
priced desktop machine. You know that the video card will take a chunk out
of the supplied RAM just as it does with the many desktop motherboards
which have integrated graphics. So you know that you are starting
effectively with only half as much memory as would have been installed in
a better specified desktop of five years ago. You know that the power
management will be defaulted to low CPU in order to get the claimed
battery life.

Were you to compare Vista on your machine with XP on a machine released
around the year 2002, you would not notice that XP was any faster than
Vista is. Of course, that would not suit your purposes at all, would it!!

It may or may not have escaped your attention that Win 2000 ran better on
a high end XP machine than XP did. Are you surprised?. So why are you not
running Windows 2000 still? A driver problem? Microsoft don't do drivers,
so it is not their fault, and you can hardly expect Microsoft to choke
Vista by making it backward compatible with every piece of junk made of
the last seven years.

There were many users in 2002 who complained about XP being slow, and one
way to increase XP speed was to revert to classic look, which I and many
like me did. There were also many new users of XP who complained about
hardware and software.incompatibilities too.

I have noticed that some of the magazine tests on Vista are conducted on a
laptop. This is a smart move if they want to convince others that Vista is
slow as all hell, eh, because they first have to convince themselves
according to their prejudices.

The fact that YOU don't like Vista has no bearing on whether others will
like it, and denigrating Vista because YOU don't like it is no good reason
to mock or insult those who do like it.

Personally, having used Vista since early beta days, I find reverting to
XP akin to going back to the dark ages. It looks and feels clunky. In my
opinion, my opinion counts for more than yours especially where my
personal well being is concerned, and you should accept and respect that.

BUT YOU DON'T. You want everybody to think like you do, and from what I
can deduce from your writings, I wouldn't want to be like YOU. I am quite
happy being ME. I suspect that many others feel the same way as I do.

I don't come here to convince anybody of anything. I come here to try and
offer a bit of support to those who have chosen Vista, or have chosen to
buy hardware where Vista is essentially the only option at the point of
sale.

Maybe you should try supporting people here instead of using the newsgroup
as a vehicle to peddle your own prejudices

...not by me or anyone else I know. XP by comparison was a joy - all my
hardware was detected and worked right out of the box, and all my existing
software ran - Vista.. not even close

My experience was the exact opposite. I had more problems with XP that I
have with Vista. But see bottom line is, unless you are in a corporate
environment where everything needs to be the same, everyone's experience is
going to different.

Not enough for Vista to run well, for sure. Get at least 4gb.

Nonsense, my system runs perfect in 2. only time I really tax it, is when
I'm rendering something big in Bryce or Poser.

In other words, if a user wanted to run more than MickeyMouse Minesweeper,
512MB won't cut it. Is that what you mean, but don't want to say?

Perhaps it wasn't XP, maybe it was a driver problem.

If Vista-pushers can say people that have problems with Vista that it's not
Vista, it's a driver or hardware issue and not Vista itself, why can't the
same thing be said for XP problems ?

I also noted that you have LESS problems with Vista, not NO problems.

(I would also like to add my 2 cents....that my XP experience was
completely painless and a vast night & day difference over Windows98,such
an improvement that I have never considered going back to 98...ever. I made
that decision 30 minutes after installing XP.)

Wow! Now that is impressive. In fact, that represents proly the biggest
waste of time and resources I've ever seen. I'm impressed by your sheer
lunacy.
You need to visit your mental help place tomorrow. You know, the one
you're spamming everyone with?

Read your post again.
There is very little that uses less resources than Minesweeper.

If you stop your assumptions and quit reading what is not in my posts,
the answers to your questions are essentially there.

I have no intention of asking those and posting their specifics here
since there is no need.
You should know of programs that need little memory.
Or is your Windows Vista experience so limited you simply have no
idea?

As for your Linux references, irrelevant.
We are talking about RAM in Windows Vista in case you forgot.

An HONEST Vista Ad:

The Rolling Stones Love Vista:

Frank - seek help immediately! Visit ...
http://www.binsa.org/

(I would also like to add my 2 cents....that my XP experience was
completely painless and a vast night & day difference over Windows98,such
an improvement that I have never considered going back to 98...ever. I made
that decision 30 minutes after installing XP.)

I agree same thing here... and for millions of people... its the same
thing...

BUT with vista its the opposite... the exception is for someone to have
vista running with no problems... LOL

so lets see, the transition from

win98 > XP = FANTASTIC MIRACLE
the transition from XP > Vista = TOTAL CRAP

The IDIOTS who keep saying that the same people who are complaining about
Vista, were complaining back when XP was released.... are.. IDIOTS!

This is a LIE... only a few losers complained about XP and they didnt know
what they were talking about!

But with vista whoever complains KNOWS what they are talking about! lol
