2 Problems, Sound and restarting

My Problem -
My pc restarts all by itself. It is a Celeron 2GHz with WinXP Home and is 3
months old. The mother board is P4 Titan GA-8VD667K (which means nothing to
me). It rarely gets turned off so I don't know how long the problem has
occurred. I shut down the pc and then about 20 minutes later, (I think as
I'm not always there) it reboots. I usually just turn it off at the power
point as well but that means I have to wait while it shuts down. I'd really
like to find the cause if anyone has any ideas.

Friend's Problem -
We have been talking via Yahoo messenger for 7 months and now all of a
sudden my friend's headset is taking her voice and spitting it back out the
earphones to her. I too can hear her voice as well as the "echo". She has
tried a different headset (USB) and played around with all the settings she
can find regarding sound. She can record sound normally using the XP Sound
Recorder and she can play sound files normally. In frustration she did a
clean install of WindowsXP hoping to fix the problem but alas, no.
We have searched many sites but cannot even find the same problem let alone
an answer. The only other echoing problems mentioned being when speakers are
used instead of headphones.

Any help for the above problems would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance
Robyn

Do you use a modem to connect to the internet? Does the
modem share a phone line with your telephone? If you have
answered yes to this then the modem may be waking up your
pc.
