Problem with sounds and headset

G

Gerry Wolff

I have a problem with using my USB headphone and speaker headset:

* I have managed to get it set up and working properly but ...

* If I unplug the headset, WXP alters all the settings under "Sounds and
Audio Devices" so that I have to set everything up again if I plug
in the headset in again.

* If I leave the headset plugged in, it clutters up my desk and, since
there there is no off switch on the headset, I either have to listen to
all the tinny sounds coming through it or I have to fiddle around with
WXP to mute all sounds.

I would like to be able to unplug the headset without losing all my
settings. Is there any way that I can stop WXP losing the settings?

With thanks,

Gerry

Hi Gerry,

When you adjust the settings for the headset, have you selected the headset
as "Default Sound Device" in "Sounds and Audio Devices"?

I have one of these, and I find I have to select the headset or the
soundcard each time.

Yes, I have the headset set as the default device but WXP seems to lose
that setting if I unplug the headset.

OK, I've just tried it. With the headset plugged in and working (and
selected as the default device), I can select the soundcard (without making
it the default) and adjust the settings, without altering anything on the
headset.

Now let's try it the other way round....yep, same thing. Unplug, plug back
in, properties still the same.

I think the key is to select the device you want to adjust *without*
selecting it as the default. If you select it as the default, it changes the
settings globally.

HTH Tony.

Create your own post. Your soundcard drivers are not installed.
Check your utility disks that came with your PC when you purchased
it, to install them.
