2 minute wait to connect to network at bootup

Every time at boot there is about a 2 minute delay before my network
connection is established.

Anyone know why this might be?

Using XP Pro SP2, fully updated.

TIA, Rich

Might help someone respond better if we knew what type of
network you are attempting to connect to and what method you
are using to connect.

Machine particulars would be useful also.

More details:

My network is a Verizon DSL with a combination modem-wireless router.
My desktop that is experiencing the delay is hard-wired to the
router.

The computer is a home-built with a MSI motherboard with on-board
Ethernet.

The router has DHCP enabled.

My network connection has:

Client for Microsoft Networks
QoS Packet Scheduler
File and Printer Sharing for MS networks
Network Monitor Driver
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

I'm not sure what else might be important...

IS there any firewall app like Norton Security centre or McAfee? It could be
that they are blocking network connection's till they are fully loaded.

Disable startup on those to troubleshoot them out of the equation.

Thanks for posting so much information. I don't have
Verizon DSL but my brother does. He does not have a home
network but only connects to the internet. When he clicks
on IE or the MSN garbage that Verizon supplies his computer
takes about 1 - 1&1/2 minutes to log onto Verizon. Part of
the time is the Microsoft Messenger service starting. The
remainder of the time is the computer accepting the IP
address, etc. He also has a relatively fast Dell desktop.
Don't know if this is a Verizon problem or not.

IIRC Verizon supplies you with McAfee Antivirus and
Firewall. This could be slowing down the connection also.

I am only using the Windows XP firewall, no third party SW.

I do not have McAfee or Norton antivirus, I am using AFG.

I use Firefox as a browser but that is opened only after my network
connects. No Messenger service or any SW that is constantly streaming
stuff.

Thanks to all who put out ideas to help me.

I have found the problem. It was a service called "Bonjour" and it
was related to ITunes that I had installed about two years ago and
then removed.

I found a boot log analyzer program called "BootXP" and with it's 30
day trial I was able to examine my boot file and see what
services/drivers/programs were taking a long time to load.

I disabled the Bonjour service under Admin tools and my boot time
dropped from 225 seconds to 85 seconds!

I highly recommend "BootXP" from Greatis Software as a very useful
program to find these type of problems.
