Serious Boot up delay

Recently, for no reason that I'm aware of, I have long (15 minutes)
delay when I boot up my Windows XP. The boot up works fine but stops
just before bringing up any network connection and before putting
icons on the desktop. The computer just sits there for 15 minutes.
(I've looked at the processes in Task Manager and theonly thing going
on is Isass.exe.) Then, after 15 minutes, the rest of the boot up
process continues and everything is OK. It's waiting for something
or for something to timeout, but I cannot figure out what.

Netbios?

Don't know if it is netbios or how to findout. I do know that when I
boot up in SAFE mode with Newtworks it works OK.

You could have a virus and a real sneaky one at that!
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.nimos.worm.html

I can't remember the exact details but it hinges on the first character
of Isass.exe. Several characters are similar i.e. l 1 and I. You will
see the capital i and the lower case L cannot be distinguished by
looking at them.

Run your anti-virus with updated definitions in safe mode.

Also try AVG (freeware)

Don't, however, allow to anti-virus programmes to run at the same time.

Hope this helps.
