2 minute delay after startup

When I boot Windows XP Pro (sp2), there is a 2 minute delay before the
local area network is available, and before other programs (e.g.
Control Panel) will start up. This started happening after an
abortive attempt to install some VPN software. Anyone know how to
eliminate this delay?

Hi Matthew,

Slightly different circumstance, but ... here's something to
consider that is helping me.
Download Systinternal.com 's Filemon.exe and run it. It's
going to create a HUGE file, so if you take a moment to
experiment & learn how to Exclude some of the processes, it'll
make it a lot easier to interpret.
In my case I found two process (down from 4 so far) loading
failures that were taking 30,000 mS (30 Seconds) each before they
decided there was a problem and to move onto the next file. I'm
still in-process since these last two are not so easy to ID, but
in your case it sounds like it might be easier to do.
Filemon.exe is small and makes NO changes to your registry or
system files - and it's fast. You can turn on/off when/if it
does its captures and show time/duration of each event. Very
useful, IMO.

Thanks Pop. I've looked at my event log, and found network-related
errors, so I've moved over to the network news group.
