100% Resources/computer freezes

I am having a problem with iexplorer not shutting down after I exit it. In
Task Manager 100% Resources are used and when I scroll though the processes
iexplorer is still running. When I stop it in Task Manager the resources
are freed up instantly and I am able to continue working. Does anyone have
this problem? I have the latest updates etc.
I am running:
Windows XP (latest)
All updates etc. are installed.
The latest graphics driver for NVIDIA is installed.
I have 1 GB of RAM.
My processor is Pentium 4, 2.0 GHz

Thanks for any help with this.

1) What version of Internet Explorer do you have?
2) Do you have all the latest Windows Updates?

A) Try turning off 3rd-party browser add-ins:

-- go to Control Panel, then Internet Options (under Internet Connections is
you use the category view).
-- on the Advanced tab, scroll down to and un-check the "Enable third-party
browser extensions" box.
-- restart your computer and see if the problem continues and post back here.

This is most often caused by malware. Go through these steps
systematically, doing all the preparatory work:

Well, I disabled third party add-ins and then uninstalled the Google
Toolbar. I then enabled the third party add-in and reinstalled the Google
Toolbar (Beta version) and I haven't had any problem for the past day or so.
Hopefully it's fixed. Thanks for the two responses.
