press F8 on boot up & try going to 'last known good configuration' if it's still high in cpu usage press Ctrl + Alt + Delete buttons at the same time. A panel should come up telling you everything that is running on your system look at what 'applications' are using up your cpu you can also look in 'processes' running that might be to blame.

I had a similar problem. I had allot of trash in my startup. that I had to
clean up. also try ad-aware. and defrag. this may help. now my computer
runs fast unless I try to clean disk. then it runs 100% again. still
trying to figure that out. hope this helps.

hi jym,

sometimes i see 100% at System Idle Process. Most of the time no, its
just whenever i try to access my computer, etc as i said before. Now i did
findout that alot of ppl are complaining about AIM causing issues like this.
Is there anyway i can repair internet explorer or explorer.exe? the other
things that everyone else that has replied to this with, i've already done,
but they dont pick up anything wrong, i had done them before i even posted
the first time so basically they were telling me to do the same crap i had
done over again. Please help me if you can b/c i need this issue fixed
before friday, b/c i'm going home for spring break and i'd never hear the
last of it from my parents if i have to pay someone to look at it or fix it.
Do you have an email addy that i may contact you at to ask more questions if
i happen to loose this post?

I found a process explorer utility on sysinternals.com. I am having issues with High CPU with a svchost.exe file. This utility has lead me to the msvcrt.dll file being constantly called upon. If you are having the same issue and find a resolution, please post the fix to this thread. Thanks and good luck. Joh

I get constant 13% System (not System Idle) cpu usage, and sometimes it goes to 98-100% and the pc hangs. Opening certain large folders in win explorer also hangs it

Greetings,

Try scanning your computer for any spyware or malware:

Try these programs to check for any spyware that may be on your system:

Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Try SpyWareBlaster to stop intrusions:

Also see the following links:

Thanks and best of luck!

do your task mgr., see which item on the row under cpu has the biggest
number, make sure you remember the item, then end the process, minimize the
task mgr. for the moment, then go in the control panel, open admin.tools,
then click on componet services, and then click on services (local), then go
to the item that you had ended the process on, and right click to open up,
go to properties, and open it up see where it says auto, manual or disable ,
if your not sure you need it at least put it on manual for the time being,
and last you have to click on recovery to make sure there if has restart or
take no action, make sure it has take no action. Then you can look back to
