CPU usage: 100%

When I start Windows XP, my system tasks shows CPU usage 100%, and cannot
start any programm. Cannot open control panel, ect.
When I start Windows XP in the save mode, CPU usage shows 2-2%, But as soon
as I start Windows Explorer, it jumps to 100%.
Any idea, where to look for the fix?

Thanks
Jerzy

It sounds like you've got spyware and/or a virus run Adaware SE/Spybot
Search and Destroy/CWShredder/McAfee Stinger (free) make sure you have a
good virus protection active....use Google for all these.

Ctrl/Alt/Delete look at processes. Do also in safe mode as a comparison.
Run the recommended software in safe mode.

Thank you for your replies.
Yes , it was Widows Explorer, which took 100% of the processor. It works OK
in the save mode. And yes I did run spyboot software and antivirus.
The "bad behave" stayed. I think that virus corrupted some of the windows
files beyond the repair leve. I gave up, and reinstalled windows (not Repair
existing - did not work either, but the new installation.
Problems gone.

Thansk your input.
