100% CPU usage

What creates 100% CPU usage? I have used ccleaner.com to clean the hard
drive, housecall.trendmicro antivirus and malware scanner, removed all
unwanted software, and defraged the drive. Also tried RegCure. I have 79%
free space on hard drive but during the opening of any applications, CPU
usage shoots to 100% and everyting slows to a craaaaaaaaaawl.
What else can i do to bring the computer back to original state short of
reformatting the drive?

Look at the running processes and see what's using it?

I have 41 processes running, not sure what they all are or even how to find
out, but CPU usage is minimal or none at all. Once I open an application the
CPU usage soars from that single process.

You either download the Process Explorer and run it, I cannot remember if it
does have access to the insert to look in the database or not?.

Process Explorer for Windows v10.21
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx
Or you can download the hijackthis and you can look the info on the internet
or best if you send your log for analysis to many forums on the internet to
help you out know what is running.

It could be a problem with the Windows Update Service which is fixed by
upgrading to the
Windows Update Agent 3.0, v. 7.0.6000.374, for 32 bit machines is available
here:
http://download.windowsupdate.com/v7/windowsupdate/redist/standalone/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe
and installing the updated KB927891 hotfix, here:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=927891 for a complete fix.
