I first had an issue where I received a missing or corrupt file error for
windows/system32/config/system.
It seemed that I was able to correct the error by copying a new
config\system file in windows recovery, and I no longer received the same
error. Now I get a blue screen with the following error string:
0x0000007B (0xBA4C3524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
I have tried the following so far:
Removing all USB and Network connections before booting
Booting in safe mode - does not boot, shows a listing of files then
automatically reboots
Booting to last configuration that worked - does not boot
Running chkdsk /p and /r - finds an error and states its corrected but still
does not allow me to boot
It seems this error has been linked to the BIOS in some instances, which I
did change in order to boot from a CD when I fixed the first error in windows
recovery but I have since changed that back to the default order.
Others link the error to a virus that may have invaded a sector (I have no
idea what that really means), but I am not sure how I can remove a virus when
I am unable to boot windows up.
Additionally I do receive a rear fan failure at start-up, obviously because
my fan does not work, but I am assuming this is unrelated to the 0x0 error
and is not what is stopping me from booting up since I can ignore the alert.
I currently am running windows XP on an XPS dimension 4.
I have searched high and low, but nothing seems to address my issue. All I
really want to do is to be able to recover pictures of my son on my computer
if I can't get Windows back up and running. If I can do that I can just wipe
the HD and install again if I have to with no worries.
Any help would be appreciated.
