"you've got mail" voice

In Outlook 2003, when I recieve new e-mail, I hear an audible alert that
says, "You've got (number) new mails." I've trying going to options within
Outlook, and also through Windows Control Panel for sound schemes, but I
can't seem to find how to turn this sound off or change it. Any ideas?

It's an add-in that you have installed since it is not native Outlook

Aloha Notso_techie,

That's not part of Outlook natively. Must be some third-party program that
you (or somebody) installed on the machine. Have you checked Control Panel
| Add/Remove Programs to see if there is anything listed there that looks
suspicious? (like "You've Got Mail Voice")

I had the same problem and Milly's solution got me headed in the right direction. My Toshiba P105 has a program under "Toshiba" called "Speech System" and Speech System Help". The Speech System help walks you thru disabling the incoming mail voice notification. Of course, I was blaming a removed AOL application for the problem and the Toshiba online help was absolutely useless.

That voice was driving me crazy! Thanks!

I'm having the same problem with a Toshiba, but I cannot find "Toshiba Tools"

Aha! Here is the solution (Toshiba thing)...found it in another tread:

It has been driving me crazy too. Do you have a Toshiba Notebook? I do and
it's a Toshiba thing. A little voice from my computer told me what to do.
Actually when the Toshiba Speech System screensaver was on it would not stop
talking and my daughter asked me to shut it up.

Here is what you do according to the Toshiba Speech System instructions
("Removing Mail Speak from Microsoft Outlook 2000/2002/2003"):

Start Microsoft Outlook.

Click the Tools menu, and then select Options.

Click the Other tab.

Click the Advanced Options button.

Click the Add-In Manager button.

Click the Mail Speak (TOSHIBA) checkbox (it should be blank) to turn the
system OFF.

Click OK to close the Add-In Manager dialog box.

Click OK to close the Advanced Options dialog box.

Click OK to close the Options dialog box.

Mail Speak is now disabled in Outlook.
