Windows Security username and password

I have used windows mail for years. I have never had to enter an username or
password. When I push the icon to send and receive a windows security
message box pops up and asks me for my username and password. I don't have
one. I have never had one. I have used the same antivirus for years. I
have email scanning turned off in the antivirus software. When I right click
on the box I don't get anything except options to move or close. I have
tried all my normal usernames and passwords and nothing happens. I close out
the window and I do get all my messages coming in. I can not send any out.
This happened after downloading window updates. I am on dialup and I am
behind on the updates. Does anyone have any suggestions? If I delete the
account will I lose all the emails? I am at my wits end with this because I
am in diresct sales and I can't send out my newsletters to my customers! I
can't send emails to my friends and family. I have to use another email
account for all those things now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

You must have had a UN/PW combo for the mail account, usually the UN takes
the form of your full email address, or the part after the @.

If you can receive mail then your PW/UN are correct.

You can check your account settings via the Tools menu>accounts>select your
account>properties>Server tab.

Please provide the full error message that you get when it fails to send.
Copy & Paste it to your reply.

I do not get an error message. It just goes on to receive the emails and
then when done it says that the action could not be completed. (sending the
email that has been in there for weeks.) I have used several different
ussernames and passwords to gain acess and nothing works. Any help will be
appreciated! If i have to delete and make a new one, will I lose the emails
in my account?
Thanks,
Terri

It sounds like you have a 'stuck' email in the Outbox. Open the Outbox folder.
Either delete or move as many of those messages as you can to
the Drafts folder. If any message can't be moved or deleted, apply this
Microsoft fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090
