Windows Security Pop Up

deb960

Hi
I have recently set up a new windows mail account and thanks to Garys help
on this board, have spoken to my ISP and have upgraded account to now send
emails.
However, now when I try and send emails a different message comes up which is:

Windows Security
Logon to mail.domainname.co.uk
Please verify that both username and password are correct for your mail
server.

So I put in the details, but it does not go anywhere, just keeps popping up
with this message again.

All I can think of is that I have forgotton which username and password are
associated with this - how do I go about finding this out, or changing this?

Thanks
Debbie

domainname in that server name is likely to be a placeholder for the name
of your email provider, not what you should actually use. Have you found
your ISP's instructions for setting up to use their email servers, and
followed
them? If they haven't written instructions for Windows Mail yet, their
instructions for Outlook Express should also work under Windows Mail
if the don't call for the HTTP protocol. The instructions are likely to be
somewhere on their web site. Or, you could tell us who your ISP is and
see if anyone here already knows where to find their instructions.

Hiya
Sorry not too sure if I know what you mean.
Basically I use BT broadband for my personal account and fasthosts.co.uk for
my business account. I set up the windows mail to receive and send my
business account emails - does this make sense?

Note that connections to an outgoing email server that cross over from one
internet provider's equipment to another's and also use port 25 are likely
to
be blocked to cause problems for spammers. This also tends to cause
problems for some people who use the same computer both at work and
at home. You may need to ask one or both of your email providers
for instructions on how to use a port other than port 25. Just trying all
the ports is a very slow way to find out which ones work, since there
are about 65,000 ports available.

I'm not sure which set of BT instructions you need. Here are the ones I
found:

For fasthosts.co.uk, see here:

There is no server named "mail.domainname.co.uk".
You will have to get the correct server name.
If you need more help, please post the entire error message.

Also - just wanted to check that other configurationis correct - this is what
I was told to do from fasthosts.

Incoming Mail (POP3): mail.onecallcommercial.co.uk
Outgoing Mail (SMTP): smtp.fasthosts.co.uk

So I presume this is correct and I dont have to use btinternet or
btopenworld in any of these fields? Sorry for being so vague

Hi Gary

Sorry yes I know there is no server named "mail.domainname.co.uk"

I put this as it comes up my own domain name - the message is:

Windows Security
Logon to mail.onecallcommercial.co.uk
Please verify that both username and password are correct for your mail
server.

Then if I put in my username and password, it just keeps bring this box back
up and will not go away.

If fasthosts.co.uk is not your internet provider, you're likely to find that
SMTP
connections using the default SMTP port number (port 25) are likely to be
blocked to cause trouble for spammers. Check if Fasthosts also told you to
change the port number, or should have. Just trying all the ports is a very
slow way to find out which ports work - there are about 65,000 ports
available, and only a small number are likely to accept SMTP connections.

Yes fasthosts told me to use port 225 which I have tried - but still the same
thing happens?

Then setting it to port 225 is likely to be closer to something that works,
even
if it doesn't cure your problem by itself.

PROBLEM RESOLVED!

At last, problem resolved - had a bit of a think as was not getting anyhere
although I am sure Gary suggested this initially (so thank you)

Basically I set up another email account but used by ISP as the SMTP address
and it works!!!!

So just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for their time and effort
- really much appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for your feedback.
Yes, substituting your ISP's SMTP server will generally fix this type of problem.
