Windows Search does not work

T

Tx2

OS is XP Professional, full version (as in not pirated), fully patched
and updated.

When I click the toolbar "SEARCH" button in Windows Explorer, nothing
happens. No side pane, nada, nothing, zilch.

I've Google, and tried the following.

I have TweakUI installed, but no reference to 'search' appears under the
'desktop' category so I can't tick it back.

I have tried right-clicking and installing 'srchasst.inf' - XP went thru
the motions, but no change to result.

I have tried removing, and re-instating the 'search' button on the
toolbar.

I can't find a way to re-instate 'search' on the 'start' menu to see if
this way of accessing it yields results.

Can anyone sort this one out please?

Incidentally, the search function works fine on the 'administrator'
login. My login is also set with admin privileges.

Replied to [Tx2]s message :
Make a new account then transfer your settings.

You can Try this :
Open TweakUI,
Click Explorer(left side)
Right side, scroll down and choose "Use Classic Search in explorer" then click OK

As a work around, from the built in Administrator account, create a new
account with admin privileges? Does search work in that? If so copy the
settings and data from the old profile to the new. Test it. If all works
ok, then delete the old.
