Windows Messenger (V4.7 or 5.0?)

Gunner

I was recently having problems with the voice on Messenger v4.7. To those
who follow this NG, I'm sure you saw "that" post. Well, that problem
disappeared after 4 days the same way it had appeared - with no explanation.
But, I was still looking for anyone else who had this problem and came
across a Microsoft page showing a "Newer" version of Windows Messenger (NOT
MSN Messenger). Is it any wonder people get confused with what is/isn't
available from Microsoft. When I go to this link -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?ID=FH;rid;WinMsgr , there is a
section that I have shown below:

Downloads and Updates
Upgrade to Windows Messenger 4.7 for Windows XP!
Windows Messenger 4.7 is the latest version for Windows XP. To
determine which version of Windows Messenger is running on your computer, on
the Help menu in Windows Messenger, click About Windows Messenger.

So, I have to ask... if Windows Messenger 4.7 is the latest version, why is
there Windows Messenger v5.0 shown at this url?...
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger/default.asp Is this something
different? If they are one in the same program and since I'm currently
using Windows Messenger v4.7, why then isn't this "newer" v5.0 showing up in
Windows Update on my system?

Can someone explain this situation to me? Thanks for any forthcoming info
that may be provided.

Best regards... Gunner
