Windows Messenger 5.0

David

The Windows Messenger pages on Microsoft say that the latest version
of Windows Messenger is 4.7.

How do I have Version 5.0.0.486? It specifically says Windows
Messenger, not NetMessenger, which I don't need.

I am trying to communicate with someone with version 4.7 of Windows
Messenger and we have troubles even though we both have DMZed the
routers.

Interesting that the file name is "msmsgs.exe"

Can someone explain why Windows Messenger says Version 5.0.0.486?

Thanks,

David

Greetings David,

Windows Messenger 5.0 does exist (and is mentioned on the Microsoft pages, albeit in the fine
print). The reason why it's not more prominently advertised is its sole purpose is to
provide a client for Live Communications Server and Exchange IM Server and is considered a
separate client from Windows Messenger 4.7.

There is no such thing as "NetMessenger".

DMZing the routers will have no effect on Windows Messenger audio/video support (I assume
what you're trying to get working), both routers must support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)
and have UPnP turned on (with UPnP you also do not need to forward nor open any ports).
