Windows cannot find 'regedit32' in Start/Run/Open

Kristin

I'm trying to follow the XP directions in Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article - 290684 (Save password setting not
retained in Outlook 2002). It instructs me to go to the
Start Menu, choose Run, and in the Open field
type 'regedit32'. When I do this, a popup says "Windows
cannot find 'regedit32'..." In a prior step in the
article's instructions, I did the same process
for 'regedit' and that worked fine. Any advice?

OK, here is a follow up question ...

When I try to delete a key (following the same instructions as Kristin) I
get an error "Error Deleting Key - Cannot delete [key numbers] Error while
deleting key'

How do I get around this one?

The key may have corrupt security. use regedt32 and browse to the key. Use
the security menu item to "take ownership" of the key. You should then be
able to delete it. If there are lots of subkeys, you will have to do each of
them individually. Very tiresome. . .

Hi Kristen,

What you are needing to type in is: regedt32 not regedit32.

Thanks Rube! Your idea worked like a charm.

Now, I wonder what other keys are corrupt?

I would suggest just regedit - regedit.exe is the proper editor in XP;
regedt32 is merely a stub that launches it, for the benefit of those
with the habit built in from NT

regedit doesn't give you the Security menu that regedt32 does.

This is not correct. They are identical because they both launch
the same program.

Regedt32 does not do *anything* in XP but launch regedit. It is only
3.5 KB. It is *not* the regedt32 of Win2000 or NT

Here's my follow up question:
When I get to the step instructing me to delete the key, there is no key to
be deleted. If I skip the step, Outlook still doesn't remember my password.
Where's the key I'm looking to delete?
