will not see sites tells me dns error page cannot be displayed

I cannot get the internet explorer to see any sites on the internet.

however if I do a ping to novell.com or any other site it will ping the
sites perfectly.

I have reinstalled windows xp service pack 2 (from cd) and tried to install
netscape 6 to see if that would work but nothing.

even if I try to put in http://192.168.0.1 http:65.203.174.137 ( the ip
address's to my server) nothing shows up


any ideas would be greatly appreciated???
