Connect to internet but cannot find sites

Hello everybody,

I have a strange problem: i have a IBM with windows xp pro sp2 with internet
explorer 6.0.

When i connect it to my network, it gets connected with an dhcp adress and
correct DNS settings but when i try to access any web site i have typical
error "page is unreachable, cannot find DNS server ...". But i am connected
to internet because i can ping web servers like yahoo.com or any other ones.

To complicate it, if i use mozilla firefox, i can navifate on the internet
without a problem !!!!!

But i want it to work with internet explorer
NOTES: i analyse it and my pc is virus-free !!!!!

Any ideas ?

Thanks to any answers

Hi,
=> You may have a Winsock corrupt or damaged, try to repair winsock first by
typing this in the Run Command; CMD and click OK in the prompt command type;
C:\>netsh winsock reset and Hit Enter on your Keyboard then type Exit to
exit the command Window.
Reboot your computer and try IE.

If still no joy read on;
=> Again Open the Run Command and type;
sfc /scannow and get your XP CD ready to hand it in when needed and wait for
the Operation to finish it could take from 5 -10 minutes.
Still no Joy..... Disable Firefox and Uninstall/Reinstall IE from the
Add?remove Programs.
HTH.
Please let us know your findings.
Regards,
nass

Check your TCP/IP settings. You may need to set an IP address for your ISP's
Primary and Secondary DNS Server. Contact your ISP for the addresses and
instructions on how to make the changes.
Good Luck
