DNS page error

Guest

i am having problems with IE 6

whenever i try and browse a web page i get a dns error - page cannot be
found and this happens for any page but for google.co.uk - ]

however when i ping various address either by ip number or domain name the
majority of the pings get answered.

i have tried numouse things , including reinstaling windows xp prof -
ressrtting up the network installaiton wizard and even setting lan properties
to get ip and dns automatically makes not difference - i am using a peer to
peer network where one of the computers is the internet gateway. there are 3
other computers in the network who can also brosw the internet with out
problems and there fore there is the computer that refuses to brose net

what problem could be ?

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

In which forum have you posted your HijackThis log? URL, please? (Yes,
you'll have to use another machine to do so.)

Forget about ping as a connectivity test for HTTP service.
About all it is good for these days is the reverse lookup it can do.

A much more useful test is telnet 80 (in a cmd window.)
E.g. if your screen clears that shows that a connection has been made.
If you can type GET / (That's GET<space><slash><Enter>)
and you get something back that shows that the site accepts HTTP 1.0
protocol. Etc.

I agree with PA Bear. Something is interfering (apparently selectively)
with your HTTP service. The fact that you can access a Google site
would make me suspect any toolbars or accessories you have installed
from that organization. The Google toolbar has been known to cause
related symptoms, especially with requests for Microsoft URLs.

In case you don't have access to another computer (or another partition
on your computer) another thing you can try in the interim is unchecking

Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)

(in Options, Advanced tab, Browsing section)
