Web Pages in IE don't Display Properly

Mugsy

Hi,

I have WinXP SP2 with all the updates installed. In Mozilla everything works
fine.

In IE pages display but text is larger and it looks as if tables aren't
displaying properly.

And suggestions on what may be wrong would be appreciated. I changed all
security and appearance settings back to default with no luck. It seems that
some file that handles the rendering of the web page must be corrupt or
missing.

Hope someone can give me some help as I really don't want to do a re-install
of Windows.

Thanks,

Peter

Yes it happens on every page. Background colors that are suppose to be in
tables don't appear. It looks as if I am getting just a text page although
images do appear. No formatting seems to be present.

Thanks for the help.

That's helpful as it narrows the problem down to your own computer.

Has IE 6 always looked this way? If not, when the problem start? For
example, did it start around the time any changes were made to your
computer?

Check to see if Accessibility overrides have been enabled. From the Tools
menu, choose Internet Options. Click on the Accessibility button at the
bottom right - for normal use IE will have no ticks in any of the boxes.

Also check the View -> Text Size setting is Medium, and that View ->
Encoding has a tick next to Auto-Select and that your language has a dot
next to it, eg. mine is Western European (ISO).

It just started happening 4 or 5 days ago. I can't think of what I could
have done to change things. I ran Adaware and Spybot as I usually do but
nothing out of the ordinary. Did do a little editing in the registry. Maybe
I hit something by mistake.

It looks as if whatever interprets the HTML isn't working properly.

Also when I ran AVG antivirus it said that the file shell32.dll had changed.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it. This file looks to be the
same as on my other computer. I don't usually get stumped on things. Never
come accross this problem with IE before.

Terrible when U can't even do a repair of IE. I tried some of the tips to
re-install IE but they haven't worked for me so far.

Just keep saying a newer version is already installed and stops. As a last
resort I will re-install Windows but I really don't want to go thru the
aggrevation of doing a fresh install.

I appreciate the help. I was hoping someone had come across this before but
looks like somehow I made a mistake when doing some tweaking.

Thanks for the help,

Peter

I just want to mention that "dary" solved my problem. His answer was in the
post "Re: Background colors are not displayed"

Start -- Control Panel -- Accessibility Options --

Click "Display" tab and remove check mark from

"Use High Contrast"

Funny thing is I do remember enabling this thing because due to old age my
eyes are getting really bad and I thought this may help. It just caused me
headaches instead.

Thank you all for your help!!!
