want to remove 4.6 version and replace with 6.0

Kristin

I have installed version 6.0, and cannot figure out a way
to delete the old version off my machine. Instead of
replacing the new with the old, now I have two
messengers. The old one still wants to launch when I
start up Outlook Express. I do not want to disable
access to messenger because I still would like to be able
to use the new one. Any suggestions? Please email me
back privately.

Thanks for the help,
Kristin

Hi,

Take a look at Doug Knox's Website at this link for detailed instructions on
how to disable your Windows Messenger.
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_messenger_remove.htm

When you do this your Windows Messenger won't show up in your taskbar
anymore

Disabling Windows Messenger will still allow you to use MSN Messenger.

However if you want to completely remove/uninstall Windows Messenger from
Windows XP can be found at this website made by Jonathan Kay.

Follow the steps and the pictures that the website has and you shouldn't
have anymore problems. Uninstalling Windows Messenger can disable some of
the messenger features such as Whiteboard Sharing, and others on MSN
Messenger if you're using that.

Greetings Kristin,

You can remove Windows Messenger, but if you do, you will be preventing Remote Assistance,
Whiteboard, Application Sharing and any other applications that utilize Messenger from
working (or loading without problems). You can just disable Windows Messenger by opening it
up, click Tools, Options, Preferences tab and unchecking 'Run this program when Windows
starts'. As well, you can disable it further by going to Start, Control Panel, Add or Remove
Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components on the left, uncheck Windows Messenger in the
components list and click Next >. Note: this is only available if you've installed Windows
XP Service Pack 1 -- if you haven't, visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. This won't
remove Windows Messenger, but it will let it stay out of your way, and allow MSN Messenger to
work properly.
