Using dial-up; system says disconnected

After using dial-up, I connect to the internet with no problem. Yet the
dial-up icon says that I am disconnected. Because of that, I do not get the
icon in the status bar, which means that the only way to disconnect is by
pulling the plug.

This only occurs on one system. Am using a cellular phone, so everything is
identical on all systems.

My question is what this one computer thinks I am not connected.

Using Windows XP Pro SP2.

Thanks!

Hi Bruce,
= Right click the Start Button and select properties, on the Taskbar and
Start Menu click on Hide
inactive icons and click customize button, note the Network Connection is
Always Show.

= Try this: Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
connections >> Double click Network Connections.
There on the Wireless Icon right click and select Properties, on the
Properties under general tab there two Check boxes at the Bottom of the
window:
[ ] Show Icon in Notification area when connected
[ ] Show Icon on Notification area when there is limited or no
Connectivity .
Uncheck those two boxes and click [OK].

= Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced.
Click Connection Tab and make sure this Radio Button is checked:
(*) Never Dial a Connection
Click [OK]
Does this help.

Thanks for your quick response!

There is no Network Connection in the Properties of the Task Bar. That was
the first place I looked.

I had both Show Icons.... checked on Properties of Network Connections. I
unchecked both, and still no success.

Always had the Never Dial a Connection radio button marked.

This is really strange. It is only happening on my main computer, and not on
any of the others.
